First Aid
Everyone should know some basic first aid. Consider a course
with your local Red Cross or similar organization.
You should also have a good first aid kit in your home. It should be well
stocked and kept in a place where everyone knows where it is. Do not have
first aid items just scattered all over the house. In an emergency, you will
not remember where you left anything.
There should be a first aid kit in each car as well as your bug out bag.
Recommended books to have on hand concerning First Aid are:
Wilderness Medicine by William Forgey
Wilderness and Travel Medicine by Eric Weiss
Safety
Injuries happen all too quickly, especially in a time of trouble.
You may not be able to get to a doctor or hospital. Make a conscious effort
to slow down and think before you act.
Don't take chances. Adrenaline may be pumping at the time. It can fool you
into thinking you can do something your body is not capable of.
Don't put yourself in dangerous situations if at all possible. This is not
a day to walk down dark alleyways at night.
Remember, God has not given you the spirit of fear, but that does not mean
we need to walk foolishly. He also gives us the spirit of knowledge and wisdom.
Make sure you have a home phone that does not require electrical current from
a plug.
Have local police and fire numbers programmed into phones, especially cell
phones. 911 may be overloaded.
Rehearse
You will react like you train to react. If you do not train
and rehearse; when the time comes you will do nothing or maybe worse, do the
wrong thing. Make preparedness a family adventure.
Rehearse such things as:
Get the first aid kit
Where is the closest flashlight?
I smell gas! (Rehearse, do not actually turn the gas off)
For an adventure have a Preparedness Weekend. Turn the water off to the house.
Turn all electricity off except to the refrigerator and freezer. Pretend the
gas is off to the stove. Let's see how we do in a practice situation. It may
surprise or even scare you!
The Innermost Being
Last, but certainly not least we must learn to hear and trust
the voice of God. He says His sheep will hear His voice. He will never tell
us to do something that is not in accordance with His word. This is why it
is so important to know His Word. Many fall for voices because they do not
know His Word and can be lead astray by any voice that "Feels right."
Go back and review SPIRITUAL PREPAREDNESS.
Begin to ask HaShem to prepare you by hearing his voice today. Many of us
have relied to long on our own strength. We must learn to hear from Him. Ask
Him to direct your path, then listen for Him to do so.
The time to pray is not when something happens, but before something happens. |
