MISCELLANEOUS
CAN BE IMPORTANT
Many areas of life are taken for granted on a daily basis, but in time of tragedy
or disaster it is the little things that can mean the most.
Pets
They may just be animals, but our pets are very dear to us. Remember the responsibility
you have to take care of them.
Oh no, where do I go?
There are a few things all of us humans have in common, no matter what our
social or economic status is. We all must have air, food, water and a place
for, well, coffee in coffee out! How do we deal with this basic need of human
life?
Toilets will flush without the city water supply. Simply pour in your non-drinkable
water such as that from your dishpan or swimming pool and watch everything
disappear just like old times.
Of course you can go way back to the old times, maybe fifty years for some
and reinvent the nostalgia of the Out House. City codes may frown on this
one, so check first. If you are in the country, watch out where you place
this thing. Don't start digging too close to your water source.
A great idea is a five-gallon bucket with a toilet seat attached. You can
build your own or buy one ready made at the local sporting goods store. (I'm
not kidding) Stick a trash bag, (I suggest you buy good ones for this) into
the bucket and you're almost ready. Buy a bag of wood shavings in the pet
section of your favorite store and place them next to the bucket. Scented
ones such as cedar are nice, but not required. Every time nature calls just
put another scoop on top and off you go. Your cat may wonder if you have been
taking lessons from her, but that is fine. You may be amazed, there is little
to no odor to this method.
By the way, toilet paper can be a great investment!
|Sanitation
"How much trash can this family create?" This is a question every
Dad has asked on trash day. Much of what we throw out can be used in some
manner. Wax milk cartons make great fire starters. Leftovers no one will eat
can be composed and used as fertilizer. Jars can be used for water storage.
The list goes on and on. What to do with trash is something to think through
and it will depend on where you live. Keep a supply of contractor grade trash
bags handy, just in case.
Diversion is good
Imagine for a moment, no power for a week. Look around and consider how many
items in your house have a tail and plug. Preparation for cooking, lighting
and heating must be thought through, but what do we do? Books, games and cards
can be a good diversion. Who knows, with all that time the children may even
find out that parents had lives prior to them coming along!
Medication
Find ways through alternative health avenues,
exercise and yes, weight loss to bring your body back to the Tabernacle fit
for His dwelling.
For medications you must have, consult your doctor and tell them you would
like an extra month's prescription in case of an emergency.
Remember, you do not have a headache because your body is low on aspirin.
Start looking to the causes instead of just putting a band-aid over the problem.
Ladies, you have special needs. Don't think the men have thought all that
through!
Working as a community
Today more than ever we must learn to work together. We must also find the
people we can trust. Your spiritual family may and will become closer than
your physical family. Read Matt 10:16-39. When the community comes together
all needs are taken care of as was in the Book of Acts.
Protecting what is ours
At some time this question will need to be dealt with. It is a personal decision
which should be prayed through and discussed as a family. Don't become a victim.
If you are going to take measures to protect yourself and your loved ones,
make sure you receive the training needed and are committed to practice of
that training.
Obedience To Authority
Scripture teaches us to obey the laws of government as long as those laws
do not contradict the laws of Scripture. Those who are living a life of faith
in Yeshua and obedience to His Torah should obey the law. This does not only
include murder and shoplifting, but obedience to such things as speed limits,
proper business practices and local ordinances.
It is probable that the attitude you have toward earthly authority reflects
your attitude toward Heavenly authority. |
